Please help !!!!

Darla is training for a marathon. She starts out running 1.5 miles and plans to add additional miles each week. Below is a screen shot from her fitness tracker app on her phone.

weeks | total number of miles run each week.
------------------------------
1 | 3
2 | 4.5
3 | 6
4 | 7.5
5 | 9

Part A:
Assuming that this pattern of running continues for Darla, write an equation that could be used to find the number of miles she runs for any number of weeks.

Part B:
To complete a marathon, you must run 26.2 miles. Using the table and/or equation, will Darla be able to complete a marathon after 14 weeks of training?

please answer all parts thank you so much :)

Respuesta :

Part A:

W = weeks t = total number of miles run each week

The equation would be t = 1.5 * w + 1.5. Say that the week was week 2. The equation for that would be t = 1.5 * 2 + 1.5 because you are multiplying 1.5 by the number of weeks and adding the additional 1.5 miles Darla started out with. The answer for the sample equation would be 4.5.

Part B:

Use the equation from part A. Plug in what you know. t = 1.5 * 14 + 1.5. Simplify it to t = 21 + 1.5. Simplify it again until you get to t = 22.5. 22.5 is smaller than 26.2, so Darla would not be able to run a full marathon in 14 weeks.

The equation is t = 1.5w+1.5, and Darla will not able to complete the marathon after 14 weeks of training.

What is a linear equation?

It is defined as the relation between two variables if we plot the graph of the linear equation we will get a straight line.

If in the linear equation one variable is present then the equation is known as the linear equation in one variable.

Let's suppose w is the number of weeks and t is the total number of miles run each week.

The equation can be represented as:

t = aw + c

Where a and c are constants

When w = 1, t = 3

3 = a + c ...(1)

When w = 2, t = 4.5

4.5 = 2a + c ...(2)

Solving equations (1) and (2) to find the value of a and b.

a = 1.5  and

b = 1.5

The equation:

t = 1.5w+1.5

Plug w = 14 in the equation, we get:

t = 1.5×14+1.5

t = 22.5

Thus, the equation is t = 1.5w+1.5, and Darla will not able to complete the marathon after 14 weeks of training.
