Why did Thomas Jefferson oppose Hamilton’s national bank? He thought it would be too weak. He thought it was unconstitutional. He wanted a more powerful government. He believed in the implied powers of the Constitution.

The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, who had married into the wealthy Schuyler family, represented the urban mercantile interests of the seaports; the Antifederalists, led by Thomas Jefferson, spoke for the rural and southern interests.

Hamilton sought a strong central government acting in the interests of commerce and industry. He brought to public life a love of efficiency, order and organization. Jefferson advocated a decentralized agrarian republic. He recognized the value of a strong central government in foreign relations, but he did not want it strong in other respects.

Hamilton thought that the National Bank was Constitutional and Jefferson thought that the National Bank was unconstitutional.

Thomas Jefferson opposed Hamilton's bank as he believed that it was unconstitutional and he was of the idea that  such an institution wasn't going to benefit an agrarian system.

Alexander Hamilton who had wealthy ties because of his marriage, was the one who was at the leading end of the Federalists. The Federalists were synonymous with representing the seaports' interests. The Anti-federalists whose leader was Thomas Jefferson identified with the interests of the Southerners and rural population.
