The functions of the pharynx include moving food throughout the body and transporting air through the body. So the correct option is C.
What is pharynx?
It is a hollow tube that is present at the junction of the buccal cavity and the nasal cavity and it is a part of both the digestive system and the respiratory system.
When air passes through the nasal cavity and when food passes through the oral cavity, they pass through a common junction for a while and then get divided into the oesophagus and the trachea.
This common junction is called the pharynx. The food passes to the oesophagus and air to the trachea. To prevent food from entering the trachea, a cartilaginous flap exists at the top of the trachea called the epiglottis.
When food is being swallowed, the epiglottis closes the entrance of the trachea which prevents choking and restriction of breathing.
