First, you must put the variables on one side. So, for the first equation you must put the x on the other side, making it negative, and then putting the constant, in this case negative four on the other side, making it positive. So, it'll look like this:
4=-x+4y
Now, you must cancel out the y's, since you want to solve for x. So, in order to do so, you must multiply them.
4= -x+4y
-24=2x-8y
Now, you will notice that to cancel it out it's very simple. You can multimply the first equation by two. When you do that though, you have to multiply the WHOLE equation. So, it'll look like this:
2* 4=-x+4y *2
8=-2x+8y
Now, as you may notice, the y's will cancel out (-8+8=0). So you will be left with this:
Then, equal them
8+2x=2x-24
Now, if you notice, the equation doesn't make sense. No x value will satisfy the equation, therefore the system has no solution. Additionally, if you wanted to solve for y, you'd get a value and you'd plug it in to get the value of x, which in this case you wouldn't get an answer
