If the light with a wavelength of about 510 nm is made to pass through a diffraction grating and the angle formed between the path of the incident light and the diffracted light is 12.0° and forms a first-order bright band, then the width of the slit is 1mm.
As we know that for diffraction grating the light is diffracted to some angle and forms a minimum
the condition is given as
[tex]a sin\theta = N\lambda[/tex]
here we know that
a = size of grating
[tex]\theta = 12^0[/tex]
[tex]\lambda = 510 nm[/tex]
Now from above formula we will say
[tex]a sin12 = 1\times 510 \times 10^{-9}[/tex]
[tex]a = \frac{510 \times 10^{-9}}{sin12}[/tex]
[tex]a = 2.45 \times 10^{-6} m[/tex]
so here size of the grating will be 2.45 micro meter
