- We have six classes of nutrients. They are Carbohydrates, Proteins, Vitamins, Minerals, Fats and Oil, Water.
- Carbohydrates: They are required as the major source of energy in the human body. They are composed of starches and sugars. Examples of foods that contain carbohydrates are: Rice, Maize, Flour, Yam, Potatoes e.t.c
- Proteins: They are the nutrients that are responsible for bodybuilding and the repair of worn-out tissues. Examples of foods that contain proteins are: Legumes such as Beans, Milk, Fish, Meat, eggs e.t.c
- Fats: They are responsible for the regulation of body functions by contributing to chemical reactions and they help to maintain the body temperature. Examples of food that we can find them in are: Oils, Meat, Eggs, Cheese.
- Minerals: They are only needed by the body in small quantities. They become a part of body structures such as bones and teeth, regulate certain body functions. Examples of the foods you can find them in are: Fruits and Vegetables.
- Vitamins: They are needed only in small amounts, but vital for good health, they help your body fight disease and regulate body processes. Examples of the foods you can find them in are: Fruits and Vegetables.
- Water: Water is an essential nutrient needed by body. It aids in the digestion of food. It helps in the transportation of nutrients around the body.
