What do pieces such as “Marriage Is a Private Affair” and the excerpt from Nectar in a Sieve demonstrate about the influence of modern ideas and modern ways on traditional cultures? How are the characters in these works affected by the modernization of their respective societies?

Respuesta :

Marriage is looked at differently depending on where you live. Many cultures had / has arranged marriages, who you would marry was chosen by your parents and you had no say, many times this was done soon after birth. You were committed to that person for life, regardless of your own will. Now with modern customs coming into play many cultures have embraced the idea of free will, you can marry who you want, stay married as long as you choose and to whom regardless of economic status, race, religion, or sex. Characters are affected by the modernization by the fact of some people being against it and some people being all for it. It’s new, it’s different, some people cannot adapt to that this quickly which starts a lot of controversy over the subject.
