The Boer Wars were two armed conflicts that took place in South Africa between the British Empire and the settlers of Dutch origin - called Afrikaners, Boers or Voortrekker. The first of these wars took place from December 16, 1880 to March 23, 1881; and the second, between October 11, 1899 and May 31, 1902; its result was the victory of the British Empire and the extinction of the two independent republics that the Boers had founded in the mid-nineteenth century: the Orange Free State and the Transvaal Republic.
