The occupation impacted the city in these ways:
Division: you really don't want to be divided. Families were sometimes separated because of the occupation zones.
Difference of countries: you really didn't want to end up in the Eastern half (USSR possess it) They usually mistreated you, and you really didn't have anything. They didn't help you rebuild, you were on your own. On top of living in a pile of rubble, there were food, water, medicine, and all kinds of shortages.
