He showed gentleness towards the other characters because he knew that he is greatly feared for his size. He showed them that being big does not equal to being mean and scary. His good intentions were rewarded when the other character began treating him as one of their own and welcoming him to enjoy their entertainment. 

The event of the story (Gulliver's Travels) will most likely focus on the efforts of the narrator to develop a good relationship with other characters.

The narrator Gulliver was giant in size as compared to the other characters. Due to this weakness, he showed gentleness towards other characters, as people were feared due to his size. He treated others with good intentions, welcoming each character happily and enjoying their activities.

The narrator spends much time developing good relations with other characters so that he can stay with them happily, and it gives morale to the readers about what is important in life for being happy in all situations.

Therefore, the main focus of the event is that the efforts of the narrator are to develop good relations.
