Enzymes speed up the rate of biochemical reactions in living systems. If cells do not have enzymes the rate of biochemical reactions will be extremely slow and it will not be able to sustain life.
Enzymes are proteins which speed up the rate of chemical reactions, these enzymes can be found inside each cell. The cell can only be kept alive if the chemical reactions that are needed for its survival occur, if the reactions stop the cells will die. It is the responsibility of the enzymes to ensure that these reactions takes place very fast so that they will be able to sustain the life of the cell.
A typical reaction that take about a second inside a cell in the presence of enzymes, may takes up to two months to happen without the appropriate enzymes, which means the cell would have died long before the reaction occur.
Cells will die because the reaction is too slow to sustain life.
An enzyme is used to speed up a chemical reaction. Many chemical reactions is needed to sustain life. Without reaction that makes energy, cell body can't operate its normal function. Hypothermia or hyperthermia is an example of condition when the enzyme is not working properly because body temperature is not inside the range of temperature needed for the enzyme to work.
