So, you may see this and go like... 'Oh, so I just add three and seven, then multiply by four?' While that may seem logical, it's incorrect!
You see, we always have to follow the order of operations. The acronym to remember them by is PEMDAS.
P - Parenthesis
E - Exponents
M - Multiplication
D - Division
A - Addition
S - Subtraction
This list details what operations we do in order. So, first we look for parenthesis, then exponents, then multiplication, etc.
With this in mind, what operation do we do first for 3 + 7 * 4? We multiply 7 and 4!
7 * 4 = 28
Now we can add 3 to 28.
3 + 28 = 31
