The first step is to think of 225% and 225/100

      [tex]225\%=\dfrac{225}{100}[/tex]


This can allow us to separate out the whole 100's (aka 200) from the not full 100:

      [tex]\dfrac{225}{100} = \dfrac{200}{100}+\dfrac{25}{100}[/tex]

Then we can simplify each fraction:  

     [tex]\dfrac{200}{100}+\dfrac{25}{100} = 2+\dfrac{1}{4}=2\dfrac{1}{4}[/tex]

And this is the same as 2.25 as a decimal.
