The statement "Friedan interviewed many women who were not happy with their suburban lives and she eventually worked to change society's expectations for women" is true. Betty Friedan conducted interviews following World War II, a period where many women went to work while soldiers served abroad. Upon returning, however, many women were fired to make room for men. In the 1950s and 60s the concept of the "suburban housewife" portrayed women as staying at home and caring for the children while the men were at work and it also portrayed women as happy with their set-up. However, as she discovered through her interviews, many women were in fact not happy with that set-up, but were convinced that is how other women felt due to the "suburban housewife" imagery they would see in magazines, newspapers, and the TV. Friedan then worked hard to show this discontent, which eventually gave rise to a new feminist movement.
