Comfort food is food that makes your body release Endorphin, Dopamine and Serotonin, which are the happiness hormones. Comfort food brings stress levels down dramatically. Some, but not all, comfort foods contain high fat, which can lead to high cholesterol levels in the blood, which increases the risk for heart disease. Also, it can lead to excess fat, making it more difficult to complete physical exercise. Serotonin is one of the happiness hormones, meaning if you ingest it, not only will your stress levels reduce, but your happiness will too. Serotonin, along with other happiness hormones are often found in comfort foods, making them more dangerous.

This category of food generally is believed to lower the stress levels. This happens because it is associated with the emotional state and nostalgic memories of a person.
Comfort food can lower the physical fitness of an individual. The reason being the high levels of sugar, salt, fat, etc. All these components of food ruin the health of body and get stored in the form of fat tissues.
Neurotransmitters like serotonin are associated with the upliftment of mood and are also known as feel good hormones. These neurotransmitters make an individual crave for a certain type of food that in result enhances the mood of a person.
