Liam's statement is correct because the magma of the volcano, after it erupts, dries up and causes new land. For example, look at Hawaii.
(Mark's is also right because the volcano knocks down trees and houses, killing many organisms.)

Indeed, some scientists consider volcanos as a quick constructive force in that the eruption of a volcano can be so strong and happens in a moment or days, and not slowly like erosion that takes millions of years. When a volcano erupts it produces lava and ash. These lava when it cools turns into a rock that form new land.
