The connotation of a word is the feeling attributed with a word. It can also help develop imagery. Word choice can make you feel differently about a situation. “His throat was dry. He needed water.” “His throat was parched from lack of water. It was prudent for him to find water.” The first example sounds juvenile while the second sounds more professional and descriptive. The first example isn’t as intense as the second. Does this help?
