In an open economy like the Mexican one, it is practically impossible to avoid the impacts generated by instability. Throughout 2015 and in the first months of 2016, the strongest impacts had to do with three variables: the exchange rate, oil prices and the growth of exports.
The other relevant impact, which is the fall in exports, derives as much from the loss of oil revenues as from the brake of manufacturing exports. The brake on the industrial activity of the US contributes to this. In December 2015, the US industrial production fell 1.9% compared to the same month of the previous year. And Mexican exports depend to a large extent on the evolution of American industry.
All this brought employment problems that is reflected in its high unemployment rate and with it social problems related to drug trafficking.
