Eisenhower thought that this action could affect the development of Civil Rights, and when the Supreme Court decided in Brown v. Board
of Education, that segregation of education was against the
Constitution, civil rights advocates called on President Eisenhower to
take action to enforce the Supreme Court's decision; however,
Eisenhower avoided supporting the Court, which caused those who were
against desegregation at school to be motivated to continue their
resistance to white and African-American students studying together in
the same classrooms and schools.
