Laterite soils are of rusty red color. Their red appearance is because of the fact that they have very high content of iron and iron oxide. They are formed in wet tropics naturally. They are not at all suitable for agriculture because they are highly acidic in nature. Not only this but also, they have very low water retention capacity. These two properties make them unsuitable for cultivation.
