On September 1, 1939 German troops invaded Poland. Adolf Hitler claimed the invasion was a defensive action. Before that Germany signed a nonaggression pact with the USSR to neutralize the possibility that Russia help Poland. After the invasion Britain and France declared the war to Germany, but they were not well prepared for this situation. Finally, Poland was occupied by Germany and the USSR. The League of Nations failed in goal to prevent WW2.
