Weisman makes the claim that the civilized, urban world we've tailored to our needs and way of life would instantly start falling apart the moment we're gone. These two paragraphs are structured in a way that creates climax: first the pavements, asphalt and concrete will crack (and they associate urbanity). Then, the city would be overflown with invasive weeds that would grow without limits, turning into a jungle of garbage, spilled sewers. So, the city would become a grotesque mix of human-generated waste and wildness that has broken free of human supervision.
Weisman claims that in this post-people world- post modern world- nobody seems to care about fixing the cracks in the streets of New York; Cracks made by freezing temperatures , which result in being perfect places for weeds to grow. As for the text structure, the text starts with some alarming forecast: " ....things will begin to fall apart during....". This is to get the reader's attention. This hook is followed by some explanations necessary to understand the cause of the cracks in the streets. Then, more explanations are added to comprehend what effects the cracks cause: the growth of weeds. Finally, both the effects that these weeds and litter may have on the streets are mentioned.
