Nervous system diseases prevents the brain from communicating with and controlling other parts of the body directly. Patients with nervous system diseases may be prescribed medication to help lessen symptoms and manage pain. They can also be seen for physical therapy to help with problems in movement. People with ALS have their mental functions and senses intact because ALS only usually targets the motor neurons or the nerves used for movement.
