Sam wants to buy a plane ticket to Hong Kong and pay for a stay at a hotel.
He wants to use loyalty points for the plane ticket.
The ticket Sam wants costs 20,000 points.
Sam has 17,540 points.
He can buy bundles of 2000 points for £34 each.
He cannot buy parts of a bundle.
The cost of the hotel stay is 6650 Hong Kong Dollars (HKD)
The exchange rate is £1 = HKD 11.865
Sam thinks he will pay less than £700 in total for the points he needs to get the plane ticket and for the hotel.
is Sam correct? show your working clearly

Respuesta :

so sam needs to buy 2 bundles of points, right? if he buys 1, he will have 19540 and you can not buy parts, so for the ticket it is 34x2= 64 pounds.
so to find the hotel just divide by the exchange rate, so 6650/11.865=around 560 dollars. add them up so 64+560= 624 pounds, so he will pay less.
