Stowe makes this connection between Uncle Tom and Christ by way of their deaths. Both of these people had similar lives as well as similar deaths, and it is not difficult to see that this connection between the two was made intentionally. Jesus, in the Bible, had sacrificed himself and died in order to wash away all of the sins of the people on Earth. Uncle Tom, similarly, had also died for a similar cause. In Tom's death, he had aided in the escape of Emmeline and Cassy as well as helping all of the slaves on the Shelby farm in Kentucky to be freed. So, just as Jesus from the Bible had sacrificed himself to save the people from their own sins, Uncle Tom had died in order to save the black men and women from slavery on the Shelby farm.
