Recessive is always lower case. If something has the recessive trait, it has to have two lower case, if it had one upper case it would have a dominant allele and therefore wouldn't have the recessive trait

pp, capital P represents a dominant gene. So, the genes with the capital p all show the dominant trait. Only when both are lowercase p's does it show the recessive trait.
