The correct answer is (3) He is not strong enough to do it on his own. Lines 5-6 from “Batter my heart” (Holly sonnet 14) by John Donne state that he is usurped by the Devil and that he can not break through on his own even though he wants to.  We can clearly see that in next lines (7-8): “Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend, But is captiv'd, and proves weak or untrue.” Only God can sever his ties to the Devil and make him free.
