Originally, it didnt help the minorities at all, because union members convinced congress to not add anti-discrimination laws to the new deal. In fact, some groups of minorities started calling it the raw deal. but eventually (around 1934) the deal included funding for native american tribes' economic development and in around 1935 Roosevelt put several blacks in government offices and put in place several more racial relief aid programs. Unlike American Indians and black Americans, Mexican Americans and Asian
Americans saw almost no advances. For minorities overall, the
Depression was a period of great economic suffering, small political
gains, and lost social opportunities for gaining greater equality with
white Americans.
