1.- Cartier named Canada after the Huron-Iroquois word for settlement, kanata.
The original peoples of North America known as Iroquois inhabited the route of the village of Stadacona, where today is the city of Quebec, for this was used to call that area the word kanata, but Cartier began to name it as Canada to call all this extensive area.
2.- Cartier led three expeditions to Canada and claimed the land for France. He was the first explorer of the Gulf of San Lorenzo
