The Gilded Age is the latter half of the 19th century, when an increase in production and wealth drove many more people to live in urban areas than had ever before. The middle class gained more wealth and sought to live like the elite upper class. This stands in stark contrast to the lifestyle of Puritans in the 16th and 17th centuries, who sought to live simple and pure lives devoid of wealth. Puritans lived in small settlements and avoided excess wealth.

The comparison that exist between urban culture in the gilded age and the puritan culture as regards the colonial era are;

In urban culture in the gilded age, middle class people gain wealth and live a better life.

In puritan culture during the colonial era, There are alot of average people living a life without wealth, simple lifestyle.

  • Gilded Age can be explained as an era that evolve around  late 19th century, and was an era where there is rapid economic growth, as a result of this people became wealthy which make them to move to urban area and living life with elite.

  • The  periods of colonial era which evolve around year 1607-1776, was a Puritan lifestyle where people are living a simple life, life below a middle class, this doesn't allow people to move to urban areas.

Therefore, Puritan culture makes people to settle in a small place with no flamboyant life.
