In Mexico,
Porfiriato refers to the oppressive rule of Porfirio Diaz. This man came into
power in 1876 and fell in the year of 1911. This term symbolized the dominance
of a strong political order and stability in the economic growth of Mexico. But
the suffering of the people was rampant in Mexico which later on produced the
1910 Revolution. Serious social ills, like child labor and peasant indebtedness
and exploitation were a major part of Mexican society during the tyranny of
Porfirio Diaz. He was later on succeeded by Manuel Gonzales.
