The large rectangle shown below has been separated into two small rectangles. Is the area of the large rectangle equal to the sum of the areas of the two small rectangles? Write an equation to show how you know

Respuesta :

Lets say our given rectangle measurements for our perimeter are, length = 10, width = 10. We know multiplying these numbers we will get 100. Now making two smaller rectangles that equal the SAME perimeter as a 10 by 10 rectangle, we get a 5 times 5 rectangle. Lets say both smaller rectangles both have side lengths of 5. 5 times 5 is 25, and adding those two rectangles we get 50 instead of 100.     (10*10=100) does not equal (5*5)(2)=50
