Apparent magnitude is the brightness of a celestial object in space as it is measured from earth, while Absolute brightness is The total amount of energy emitted from this celestial object in space. For example if you were to shine a flashlight at a distant tree but cannot see much light then the flashlight would have low apparent magnitude. Now if you touched the flashlight and it was hot then it would have high Absolute brightness or vise versa.
