The product of powers rules basically says that two powers, let's call them [tex] a^{m} [/tex] and [tex] a^{n} [/tex], with the same base (a) multiplied together equals [tex] a^{m+n} [/tex].
In your problem you can see that [tex] a^{2} [/tex] and [tex] a^{3} [/tex] are being multiplied together and the exponents are being added, which is what the "product of powers" law says.
