Icarus is a character from Greek mythology and he was the progeny of the Labyrinth's master artisan Daedalus. Using wings that Daedalus made from feathers and wax, Icarus and Daedalus try to flee from Crete. Icarus is cautioned by Daedalus to fly neither too low nor too high lest the sea's moisture clog his wings or the sun's heat will melt them. First, Daedalus warns Icarus of complacency, then of hubris. Icarus disobeys Daedalus' advice to avoid flying too near the sun, due to which the wax on his wings starts to melt. He lands in the water after falling from the sky and perishes.
