Depersonalization disorder is a mental illness that arises due to altered state of self-awareness and identity that lead to a feeling of separation from oneself and one’s surroundings. The primary symptom of this disorder is a distorted perception of the body. Symptoms can be chronic and can last for many years leading to problems with daily functioning or even to disability.
