The main idea of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven is loss, lonelines and regret. The speaker is clearly a lonely haunted man, this is clearly shown in the next line: “Eagerly i wished the morrow, vainly I had sought to borrow, from my books surcease the sorrow, sorrow for the lost Leonore”.
Poe's sound device of choice is Alliteration, when there is a repetition of the beginning sound, as it can be heard in the following line: While i nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
