Our nails are made of keratin. Keratin is composed by dead cells. It is also the major protein in the hair. Since it's made of dead cells, it doesn't hurt at all when you cut your hair or your nails. The fingernails grow faster than the toenails. Also, men's nails grow much faster than women's. It's because of the different hormones between men and women.
