Multiple countries (United States, Great Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary, France, Japan, Russia, and Italy) decided to trade with and convert the Chinese to Christianity. A certain group of marshal artists fought back because they saw foreigners as barbaric. the "boxers" planned on removing foreign influence in China. Eventually those countries won and trade was opened and there were restraints put on what the Chinese people could do.
