Due to the hunger strike, she was brought to the prison's psych ward and was fed raw eggs through a feeding tube by force. I'm assuming this made protesters realize what was happening and it was somehow tied into the 19th amendment; the right for women to vote. Apparently sometime after, she also played a big role in protecting women during the Civil rights act in 1964.
