in ancient China women never achieved any levels of freedom similar to what we think of as freedoms today. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the level of European influence was negligible and women still lived as they did in the previous dynasties before them. Patriarchal authority may have become "tighter" - but one would need to read a serious study on Gender Relations in Ancient China to know that.
