Compare the reason for founding the different English colonies in North America in the 1600s. How might these different reasons lead to different development in the colonies?

Respuesta :

Different reasons for founding the different English colonies (in North America in the 1600s) might have lead to different development in the colonies because they would've been focused on specific goals or achieving certain feats, which in turn created different centers of attention for the settlements and unique accomplishments.

For example, Jamestown was originally founded as a settlement for the settlers whilst they searched for gold in order to profit. As such, majority of the people who came weren't specifically skilled in much of anything, and a large part of the reason for their survival was Captain John Smith's sturdy and commanding leadership. Additionally, Jamestown still became an extremely profitable place in the future; instead of gold, though, they gained from tobacco.

On the other hand, Massachusetts Bay Colony was originally founded as a settlement for Puritans, many of which came to the Americas so that they could carry out the Anglican religion in the ways they believed the Bible told them to do. They were determined to stand successful and practice their own religion, expecting to be an example for the world, which explains why they were so put together and governmentally organized when it came to their colony and its success. Furthermore, this colony was very focused on studies and ended up founding Harvard college and passing many school-related laws - a decent portion of which had to do with their religion.

P.S, Sorry if this is a multiple choice question; I simply answered without the knowledge of the question type. Either way, I hope my response was able to help you answer this question (in some way).
