Let's start at the beginning. What you are supposed to do is find the area of the 4 triangles.

QRP is one of the tringles.  It has a height of RS which is 6 cm. The base of the triangle comes from the square on the bottom of the diagram (and yes it is an optical illusion).

The square has a side length of 8 cm.

Area QRP = 1/2 * base * height

base = 8 cm

height = 6 cm

Area QRP = 1/2 * 8 *6 = 24   Oh that's where you got 24 * 4

There are 4 triangles that are the same as QRP so the answer is 24*4
