Fertilizer adds missing chemicals back into the soil to make the soil more nutrient rich. These chemicals are needed for plants to survive and grow, and many of them are commonly found in the natural environment. How, then, can fertilizer also be a pollutant?

Excessive use of fertilizers leads to eutrophication. Fertilizers contain substances including nitrates and phosphorus that are flooded into lakes and oceans through rains and sewage. These substances boost the excessive growth of algae in the water bodies, thereby decreasing the level of oxygen for aquatic life.

the rain washes down the chemical fertilizer and discharge then into the river and many water bodies causing water pollution . when they are used the young seed that are sowed falls on them and that acts as a poison in the seeds . the use of chemical fertilizer can led to the spoiling of the quality of the soil
