5 pieces of literature: The Catcher in the Rye, Harry Potter series, The House on Mango Street, The Tell-Tale Heart, Oliver Twist
In my opinion, this is the scale from most to least in terms of research I would need to do:
1. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger: This book is rated the highest regarding the research. I remember while reading the book, I was filled with questions on how the character acted the way he did. An information that would be nice to know was what Holden, the character, was thinking at times and what made him think this way. People speculate mental disorders such as depression, and this confirmation would clear up many reasonings on how the book ended how it was.
2. The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros: This book was rated second to highest. This book is necessary to analyze, as things were hidden inside the book with meanings not regular people would find just skimming the book. It is also obvious that there has been cultural and environmental significance into how the character shaped out who she was. I feel like not much information was given throughout the novel and was more up to interpretation.
3. The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe: This short story set me up for chills! Not much is needed to conclude what happened in the story, how the narrator killed a man with weird intentions, stuffed him in the cupboard, only to hallucinate his own crime. While we know what happened, background would have been nice to understand why he committed this crime. He said at one point his eyes were scary, but he meant no bad intentions. After that, he has extreme anxiety.
4. Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens: This more older book/novel was basically about an abused, homeless boy who ventures out in the wild and is thrown in between criminals and a nice plumpy man who wants to help this boy succeed. Not much information is needed, since everything is given, and the mystery in the book is solved at the end, where the man explains everything about the mysterious scary looking man present in the book.
5. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling: This book is one of the most known novel series in the world. Not much information is needed, in my opinion; everything is explained the way it should be, and usually, questions that arise in the book while reading are usually answered. Since this is a fantasy book, it's more common for backgrounds given for these genres.
