Tea prices had sky rocketed due to Britain, which upset the colonist. However, high taxes had a very large role in this.

The colonists felt that it was appropriate and necessary to boycott British teas because they knew that if the British started selling cheaper teas, they would eventually leave the American tea shop out of the business. They knew that if this happened to tea, it would eventually happen to everything else.
