Among the motivational theories, incentive theories are more relevant than others to work and schooling, and like these theories, they do not only meet basic needs, but also extreme ways of doing the opposite. Intrinsic motivation comes from internal sources, such as a personal fascination with how the mind works.
In contrast, the extrinsic theory focuses on external drives such as grades or money. Answers are almost the same, but they differ in terminology and may not fit the incentive theory exactly. Also, using this metaphor somewhat defeats the purpose of this statement. This is because internal impulses are often emotional and external motivations are often cognitive.
