I won't write an entire conversation going back and forth but I will give some pointers to get you started. Remember this is my opinion, only.
I think it's a great idea to tax junk food and soda's a little more hefty. I feel that we have such an obesity and morbid obesity epidemic and we're literally laughed at all over the globe. If people cannot afford to pay for the excess taxes on these products, they will be able to eat better. Now, on the other side of that argument, the healthier foods and produce should be left MINIMUMALLY taxed and lowered cost. Almost the opposite way of how it currently is in America.
The healthy produce and healthy foods/meats/cheeses, etc are very expensive and people would rather get more for their money thereby, they'll get junk foods and soda because it's cheaper. If we flip this around economically, by default American's would more than likely eat better.
I also feel that junk food/soda's etc should not be covered in food stamps but that's another topic.
Answer:
Topic: Soda Tax
- I think that their should be taxes on sodas and junk foods. Because Warren Buffet told the media that his secret of staying young and healthy to drink five cans of Coca-Cola everyday. But drinking that many sodas a day can give you obesity and heart diseases which means if there are taxes it would reduce the consumption of soda.
- In My opinion I believe that taxes should not be raised for sodas because it can hurt the economy. Soda taxes are highly regressive, causing low-income households to pay nearly 2 times as much as the wealthy.
- With so many people getting diabetes and getting heart diseases and illnesses and so many people being obese. I believe that it would be very irresponsible to not have taxes on sodas so that people stop buying sodas. For people that are poor it is bad for them to be drinking sodas because if they have an illness from drinking to many sodas they have no way to pay for the hospital bills if their illness is that bad.
- Yes that is true but people are going poor even the wealthy ones because they are spending tons and tons of money on sodas because there are taxes. A two-cents-per-ounce tax on soft drinks in the U.S. would cost the typical consumer more than $100 over the course of a year, that is really expensive for the not so rich poor familes.
- Without taxes on sodas more and more family members each day were suffering from drinking to much sodas. That meant that they had to pay even more money on funerals and the caskets and everything like the place to hold the funeral and the place to dig the grave and put those family members that are suffering because the cost of a soda is so cheap without taxes that they are buying so many but making bad choices by drinking a lot of sodas.
- If we put taxes on sodas the soda industry will collapse because less and less people will buy sodas and some stores and businesses will slowing become out of business and soon thier will be barley any soda left. So no taxes will lead to the soda industry to stay in bussiness so that they keep making money.
- Having taxes can discourage people from wanting to buy sugary drinks and can reduce the number of Americans who are obese. Besides diabetes, soft drink consumption has been linked to other health problems like liver diseases and tooth decay.
- Sugary drinks are regressive. That means that higher taxes are burden on those with lower incomes than those with higher incomes. Therefore it creates a downwards pressure on the number of local income households can save.
- By having taxes on sugary drinks all the taxes are for a good cause because if you want to safe environment for your kids in neighborhoods or just in general like outside then that is why we need taxes. All the taxes that we pay for go to the government to fund public things like roads, parks and social programs so the more taxes the more things we get in return. That is why we should have taxes.
- Taxing things such as soda can lead to a discourage in savings and in investments and also can lead to a discourage in innovation. As I already said tax effects the poor and the ones who diets depend on sugary drinks and things because without sugary some people can die because that it what their diet is based off of. That is why we should not have taxes.
