The American Indian movement was founded by 3 indians in Minneapolis on 1968. Mr. Banks, Mitchell and Bellecouret. They wanted to create this movement because they were facing police brutality and discrimination. Although they were a small population they made up the majority of jail inmates. They're plan was to restore their pride, set up survival schools to teach Indian history, values and set up anti poverty trusts. AIM Leaders took over the village of Wounded Knee which was the last battle in 1890. It did not end well, there was many unsolved murders. It was successful in restoring pride though, this movement is why Native American cultures are alive today.
