Alex Ross, comic book legend, painterly style is unique in the world of comics. The process combines watercolor and gouache (opaque watercolor) with pencil and India ink. Ross firstly draws with a pencil and then uses watercolor as a glaze to put over it. After watercolor layer gets dry and fixated, it can be repainted without disturbing previous layers. He leaves pencil layer in many places remain visible. When watercolor glaze is dry, Ross finishes work with brush and ink, coloring the blacks.

I would most certainly be patient enough to go to this whole process to create an artwork. The process itself might be complex; it might require quite some time and a lot of attention and concentration not to mess it up, but it is rewarding at the end. The reward isn’t just the content of finished artwork, but also contentment and pride in mastered new complex technique.
